About me

Hi! I’m Erika, a neurodivergent-affirming therapist offering professional guidance that encourages insight, self-reflection, and positive encouragement to recognize the strengths you already have.

My passion for psychology stemmed at an early age and quickly developed into volunteer work and a lifelong devotion to helping others. My educational background includes an undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Waterloo, a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Certificate program from Laurier University, and a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University, with additional training in Mental Health First Aid and Trauma- Informed Therapy. I am a registered psychotherapist with the CRPO and a member of the OAMHP.

I approach therapy with empathy, respect, and a focus on skill building and personal development. My therapeutic approach is rooted in curiosity and support, with the goal of understanding YOU. I work from a therapeutic framework of trauma-informed cognitive behaviour therapy (TF-CBT), incorporating a person-centered approach that integrates foundational interventions such as Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), mindfulness practices, and attachment-based Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT).

In my work and my personal life, I value compassion, integrity, mindfulness, and respect, applying these principles to promote authentic growth and wellbeing for others.

In the Midst

The inspiration behind In the Midst is twofold; stemming from my love of nature and forests, as well as my favourite quote by Albert Camus.    The name represents the way nature mimics our experiences: with intensity, vivacity, colour and raw emotion.

Nature is resilient, powerful, and perseveres, finding creative ways through existence while relying on the intricate surrounding ecosystem for support.

To be in the midst is to be surrounded by and going through the course of something, which is generally a great time to have a therapist guiding you through it all.
